Dirk Werner NowitzkiĀ (born June 19, 1978) is a German professional basketball player for theĀ Dallas MavericksĀ of theĀ National Basketball AssociationĀ (NBA). An alumnus ofĀ RƶntgenĀ GymnasiumĀ and theĀ DJK WĆ¼rzburgĀ basketball club, Nowitzki was taken as the ninth pick in theĀ 1998 NBA DraftĀ by theĀ Milwaukee BucksĀ and immediately traded to the Mavericks, where he has played since. A 7Ā ftĀ 0Ā in (2.13Ā m)Ā power forward, he has the athleticism and shooting ability to play eitherĀ centerĀ orĀ small forward.Ā He is considered one of the greatest power forwards in NBA history.
